embrace® Active Scar Defense

Overview

What is embrace® Active Scar Defense?

embrace® Active Scar Defense is the first scar management product of its kind. The two-part device includes a patented self-applicator and a silicone dressing. Once applied over the forming scar, embrace® relieves the natural tension that exists during the skin’s healing process–effectively treating the primary culprit of scarring.

How is embrace® different from other scar products?

Unlike cheaper scar treatments, embrace® is the only FDA-cleared product proven in multiple clinical trials to prevent the appearance of dark, raised, visible scars. Using state-of-the-art technology to actively prevent scar formation in 3 unique steps, embrace®:

1. Works by contracting & gently holding a closed incision together, actively relieving the skin’s natural tension to address the root cause of scarring

2. Protects your incision from added stresses caused by normal body movements, minimizing the widening & thickening of your scar

3. Uses 100% medical-grade silicone to help flatten, soften, & fade scars by hydrating scar tissue

Who should use embrace® Active Scar Defense?

embrace® Active Scar Defense is for anyone with a new scar, less than 6 months old. embrace® can be used by all genders, ages, and skin types.

What types of scars does embrace® treat?

Embrace is indicated for use in scar management on hypertrophic or keloid scars formed within the past 6 months. For scars older than 6 months, use embrace MINIMIZE®. Embrace does not treat abraded skin, acne or burn scars.

Treatment

When should I start embrace® Active Scar Defense for the best overall results?

Timing of treatment is important to scar healing. The most effective way to prevent scar formation is to reduce tension immediately after an incision is closed and dry. That’s why it’s recommended to start embrace® 2 to 4 weeks after suture removal. embrace® can be applied up to 6 months post-procedure, as treating scars within six months of an injury or a procedure presents the best opportunity to prevent scarring.

How long should I treat my scars with embrace®?

The full 60 day treatment with embrace is recommended for best results. As complete healing can take up to a year, embrace® clinical trials showed that scars treated with embrace® for 60 days showed significantly better results at 1 year after use than scars left untreated.

How many boxes of embrace® do I need?

Each box of embrace® includes 3 patented applicators and 3 100% silicone dressings. Each dressing lasts an average of 10 days, and is then discarded. Depending on the length of your scar, you may require multiple boxes for the full 60 day treatment. It’s best to measure your scar to determine how many boxes your treatment requires.

You can also choose from our procedure-specific kits when shopping, making it easy to know the size and quantity you need.

When will I see results?

Initial results can be seen in as early as 4 weeks, with full results visible after 1 year. Results may vary. People heal at different rates, so for some people, it may take longer than others to see results.

What ingredients are in the embrace® dressing?

Embrace® is constructed of 100% silicone and medical-grade adhesive, with no added chemicals or medications. Embrace® is safe for all ages and skin types.

Is embrace® safe for all ages and skin types?

Yes, embrace® is safe for all ages and skin types. Embrace® is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to be safe and effective, as shown in our most rigorous Level 1 clinical studies. The 100% medical-grade silicone has no added chemicals or medications. It is completely safe to use while breast feeding or taking other medications.

Does embrace® have any side effects?

Side effects are usually mild and can include:

  • Minor skin irritation or redness
  • Allergic reaction
  • Infection, pain, and/or fever

Any surgical tape or adhesive skin dressing may irritate the skin upon removal, depending on your skin’s sensitivity. This redness or slight irritation will typically clear during the 12-24 hour break we recommend between applications. Some irritation and redness is normal around the edges of the dressing. If this happens, reposition it slightly higher or lower to avoid direct contact with the irritation when applying the next dressing. If you are using embrace® after a surgery and your scar starts to open or ooze, or if you have an allergic reaction, remove the dressing and consult your physician. If you have questions or experience any of the above side effects, we can help. Please call 855-NOSCAR2 (855.667.2272) for immediate product support.

I’ve ordered product. When should I apply my embrace® dressing(s)?

We recommend applying at night, at least 2 hours before going to bed. This will provide time for the pressure sensitive adhesive of the dressing to fully adhere to your skin.

When should I remove my embrace® dressing?

Remove embrace® the day/evening prior to your next dressing change or appointment, or when the edges begin to lift, an average of 10 days after application. Certain applications or environments may require more frequent changes due to high mobility, cleansing routine, hair growth, humidity or oil level on the skin.

How do I remove my embrace® dressing?

Please remove with care, according to the Instructions for Use.  Medical grade adhesive is designed to last, so slow, gentle removal is important.

To remove start at one corner/edge and slowly peel the dressing away from the skin while using warm water and soap, or baby oil, or adhesive remover to gently loosen the adhesive.

For sensitive skin we recommend removing embrace® the evening prior to re-application to allow your skin to rest 12-24 hours between applications.

Why do I need to remove embrace® carefully?

Medical grade adhesive is designed to last, so slow, gentle removal is important. Do not pull off quickly as it could cause skin irritation or tearing.

My embrace® dressing has air bubbles and wrinkles. Is that normal?

Yes, the dressing is occlusive, which means the dressing is closed over the skin. Your skin is still breathing underneath the dressing and this is how air pockets occur. Wrinkles are the dressing conforming to your skin and occur due to the nature of wearing a dressing on your skin for 7-10 days. As long as the edges of the dressing are still fully adhered, embrace® is still doing its job and offloading the tension.

There is condensation under my embrace® dressing. Is that ok?

Yes, condensation is completely normal and often occurs after taking a shower or strenuous activity. If the edge of the dressing is not fully sealed and a water pocket has formed inside the dressing, it is time to remove embrace.

The edges on my dressing are starting to lift. Is embrace® still working?

When the edges of the dressing begin to lift, this indicates it is time to remove embrace. This typically occurs 7-10 days post application. Follow the embrace® removal instructions and allow a 12-24 hour break before re-applying embrace®.
